It’s January, and I’m headed into the 3rd trimester already! I just can’t even believe it. Having the holidays in the mix definitely made the time go by even faster. I’ve gotten so many questions about how I’ve been feeling, so I thought I’d give you a little run down on how my 2nd trimester went, along with all of my pregnancy must haves so far!

2nd Trimester Update
Let me start by saying that I was very fortunate early on because I never experienced any terrible morning sickness. I did have mild nausea that seemed to last all day for most of the first trimester, but nothing worse than feeling mildly carsick. Almost as soon as I hit week 13, like to the day, that nausea was GONE and my energy was BACK!! Hallelujah! I know that’s not the case for a lot of you mommas out there and my heart goes out to you – hang in there!
I totally get why so many moms have told me that the second trimester is the best. After all, it’s the time when the bump really starts popping and you start to feel those first kicks! I don’t know if any of you can relate, but I was so happy when it became obvious that yes, this is a baby bump, and no, I haven’t just packed on a few around the middle, HA! Okay, maybe I have a little of that too, but that’s neither here nor there… It’s also the time when the nesting urge really kicked in! We’re just about done with the nursery, so I’ll be sharing all the details very soon!
Keeping up with nutrition and exercise has been a priority during my pregnancy. It hasn’t always been easy though, and maybe more often than I’d like to admit, I do give in to the spicy Thai food cravings or that cheeseburger from the drive thru menu. I finally tried Chick-fil-A for the first time a few months ago, and the spicy chicken sandwich has been my go-to. I never knew what I was missing! Sometimes you just have to treat yourself – am I right? Thought so!
On that note, one of the best things I have done for myself during the second trimester has been prenatal yoga. A very sweet coworker of mine gave me a gift card to a local yoga studio (Anna at BE ONE YOGA is amazing if you’re local), and it’s been a game changer. It’s only 2 hours, one time a week, but it is one of the things I most look forward to. Not only do I get the physical benefits from holding the poses, but it’s also a time for me to connect with my baby, focus on myself, and interact with other likeminded mommas. If I could recommend anything to all the pregnant mommas out there, that would be it. I always come out of class feeling refreshed, centered, and of course a little more comfortable after having worked on my aching body.
In all honesty, it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows – pregnancy comes with a lot of ups and downs too. Especially when it’s your first. Everything is new and you wonder – am I supposed to feel like this? Is this normal? Some of that you can definitely attribute to hormones, but I’m serious when I say that I literally question everything! For example, we had a little scare during our anatomy scan – and I didn’t sleep for days following the appointment. Fortunately, things are just fine now, but even your emotions can be pretty taxing on the mind and on the body.
I’ll tell you what, though – I’ve learned more about my body in the 28 weeks I’ve been pregnant than I have in a lifetime. I have truly loved every minute of it – both the ups and the downs. It’s also been so fun seeing my husband as he prepares for Baby Dunn. Our relationship has already changed so much in the last few months, and I welcome the changes yet to come as we learn to navigate parenthood together. Stay tuned for an update on my 3rd trimester, but for now, here are some of the things I’ve been loving during my pregnancy so far!
Pregnancy Essentials
For those of you who have been asking, here are some of my pregnancy essentials! I’d love to hear from you in the comments below if you have any recommendations to share!
[show_boutique_widget id=”793787″]
- LULULEMON ALIGN PANT – I sized up one, they’re literally THE best legging I’ve found – I basically live in them. They’re pricey, but worth every penny
- ZELLA MATERNITY LEGGING – I haven’t tried these, but I hear great things, thinking of getting a pair since the Lulus are more on the pricey side
- Era Organics STRETCH MARK OIL – I apply this daily after my shower! So far it’s been working.
- BELLY BAND – These are great for extra support, I wear them on the days I’m not living in my Lulu leggings. You can even wear them with your pre-pregnancy jeans, leaving the jeans unbuttoned! Genius! I have black, white, and nude.
- LAYERING TANK – A great basic to wear under open cardigans or your favorite flannel, and at $10 – the price is right! I have black and white.
- Steve Madden SLIP-ONS – Living in anything that I don’t have to reach down and tie! I sized up 1/2 size
- MADEWELL CARDIGAN – cardigans are the easiest to wear, just wear your maternity tank, throw on your cardi and you are set!
- JASON BODY WASH – I’ve been gravitating toward more natural products lately
- SCHMIDT’S NATURAL DEODERANT – ever since reports have started coming out about the harmful effects of aluminum in deodorants, I’ve switched to more natural products
- PURIFY HYDRATING SKIN CLEANSER – I received this natural cleanser as part of a gift from my sister-in-law, and I LOVE it!
- HYDRO FLASK WATER BOTTLE – I take water with me everywhere! So important to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
