If you’ve been following me over on INSTAGRAM, then you know it’s been a long week in our household. So I thought, why not freshen things up by creating a DIY floral arrangement? With a handful of stems I picked up at Trader Joe’s, I was able to create a beautiful DIY floral arrangement all for under $15 on my lunch break!
Here’s how to create your very own DIY floral arrangement.
Supplies:
- Vessel (vase, pot, bowl, etc)
- Clear packing tape (Optional)
- Scissors or pruning shears
- Greenery
- Your choice of flowers – I used eucalyptus, roses, mums, and St. John’s Wart – all from Trader Joe’s, but many grocery stores carry beautiful flowers.
Steps:
- Trim your stems to the appropriate length for the depth of your vessel. Ideally, you’ll trim at least one inch to allow for adequate water uptake and greater longevity of your blooms. Make sure to cut at an angle!
- Add clear tape in a grid pattern to the top of your vessel to help with placing and securing stems
- Add your base greens to the outside of the vessel
- Start adding statement flowers
- Once you’ve added enough to make the arrangement start to feel “full,” go ahead and add a couple of filler stems and a bit more greenery amongst your statement flowers
- The idea is to make it look perfectly imperfect! Personally, I like the more whimsical, imperfect look.
