A dining room is arguably the heart of the home. For us, it is where our family comes together after a long day of school, work, play – you name it. It is a place to catch up with friends over a good meal and a nice bottle of wine. It’s always a place where you can turn the TV off and focus on those around you. Which is why it is important to me to ensure the space is not only functional, but comfortable too. The TUCKER CHAIR from SERENA & LILY has been the perfect addition to make the space just that.

Over the past year, our dining room has gotten more use than ever before. With the pandemic forcing all of us to slow down, there have been so many more home cooked (and takeout because mama is tired) meals enjoyed here. And you know what – I wouldn’t trade that time for anything. Growing up, my family had dinner together at the table every single night and that has always been a tradition I have wanted to carry on with my own family. 

In our house, we don’t have a formal dining room – instead, it is an extension of our living room and kitchen area. When designing the space, I did so with the intension of keeping it classic, with a modern, yet comfortable twist that would flow seamlessly from space to space. We started with the foundation of a simple, farmhouse style table (unfortunately, ours is no longer available). Initially, we used the chairs that matched the table. Which worked great and were comfortable, but they just didn’t add any character or interest to the space – which was especially important to me since you can see the dining area from the main living area.

In order to add some interest, without overwhelming the small(ish) space, I decided to swap our matching chairs for the classic TUCKER CHAIR from SERENA & LILY. We have had these chairs from SERENA & LILY for a year now, and I am still so happy with them! Since we are still spending more time at home than usual, they have been putting in overtime. The dining room is used for meals, as an office space, as well as arts and crafts time. Can anyone else relate?

When I first picked them out and showed them to my husband, he liked the look, but was concerned about comfort and how well they would hold up. As someone who spends 6-8 hours a day working in them, he says they are so comfortable! He has commented to me several times, that these are the “best purchase we’ve made for our home.” Now that is saying something coming from a man who usually doesn’t have much of an opinion on these things! And I have to agree, the TUCKER CHAIR IS comfortable! The seat even has a little dip that cradles your hind side perfectly.

I also love that their slim, sleek design makes them very lightweight. Our two year old can pull them out from the table and climb up all on his own. He loves to be able to do things on his own “like the big kids.” Now that is a benefit I would have never considered. He tends to be pretty hard on our furniture in general, and the TUCKER CHAIR has definitely passed the durability test. They’ve been knocked over, moved from room to room and there isn’t a mark or a scratch on them. Any spills or food dropped on the chair – no big deal, they wipe off easily. I’m here to tell you, my friends – you can have kids AND  nice things at the same time.

Tucker Chair Recommendation

After a year of consistent use, I would still choose these chairs again and again. When choosing new dining chairs, I researched several options at a variety of price points, with these coming in somewhere in the middle. The TUCKER CHAIR from SERENA & LILY checked all the boxes. Beautiful? Check. Comfort? Check. Durable and kid friendly? Check. Husband approved? Check. The classic Windsor design is one that will always be in style. As a mom of a busy toddler (and another baby on the way), these have been perfect for our family and totally worth the investment. I’m even considering buying more TUCKER CHAIRS for the craft and game table downstairs – but more on that later, we have a nursery and big kid room to design!
