One year of Classically Dunn + 2019 Project List

February 4, 2019

February marks one year since the launch of Classically Dunn! I can hardly believe it’s been a year already. None of this would have been possible without you guys, so thank you for your continued support and engagement both here and on Instagram. This community is what makes it all worth it. Just for fun, you can find the first blog post HERE about styling greenery in your home. It’s still my go-to when you want to freshen up any space without breaking the bank. A lot of the time, you can even source the greenery from your own back yard!

There were a lot of fun things accomplished around here over the last year, from a bathroom update to finding out we are pregnant with our first child – you can read the full post about 2018 HERE. I’d call the first year of Classically Dunn a success and I am so excited to share with you some of the fun things we have planned for 2019.

Project List for 2019

Frugal February

I’ve spent the last several months cleaning, tidying, purging, and organizing our home as we prepare for the arrival of Baby Dunn next month. Now that we have less, it is so tempting to fill the empty space with more stuff! This basically defeats the whole purpose. That’s why I’ve teamed up with some friends over on Instagram to participate in what we are calling “Frugal February.”

The goal is to spend less. If it doesn’t provide a basic need for our growing family, I’m not spending money on it. Here are my goals for the month in order to achieve this.

  • No trips to Starbucks – I’m drinking minimal caffeine these days anyway, so why am I spending $10 a couple times per week on food and drink?
  • No trips to Target (or Home Goods, or TJMaxx, etc) – And if I do go, STICK TO THE SHOPPING LIST! I don’t know about you, but I can’t seem to leave that store without adding at least 3 items from the Dollar Spot, then of course I head over to Hearth and Hand, and the home decor section. I can almost always count on my cart carrying more than the few select items I actually went in there for.
  • No take out dinners – Sometimes we get lazy after a long day at work and it’s easier to pick up something for dinner on the way home. With a little planning at the beginning of the week, this should be an easy one!
  • Unsubscribe from retailer marketing emails
  • Continue decluttering and organizing the house – we will be bringing in a lot of new stuff for the baby, so it’s important to make room for the things we actually need.
  • If I feel the decorating urge, I will shop my house instead of heading to the store for new items!

We will be posting our updates every Friday to Instagram, so be sure to follow along. And feel free to join in on this challenge too!

February/March

  • Complete the Nursery – we are so close to being done with our nursery! We have all the big items set up, so now it’s just down to the details. I plan to share the full nursery reveal in the next few weeks – so stay tuned for that! We are really loving it so far.

Late March/Early April

  • Welcome Baby Dunn! I’m 32 weeks, leaving only 8 or so weeks to go. Any guesses on whether he will come early or late? I’m really hoping he shows up in March, but who am I to decide that?! Regardless, we can’t wait to meet this little guy!

Later in 2019

  • Finish the master bedroom – We’ve been in the house for 2.5 years, and it’s still not complete. All we’ve done is purchase a new bed. We’ll be adding nightstands, a new dresser, art, a rug, and lighting!

  • Finish the downstairs family room – The lower half of our split level is a big open room, we use half of the space as a family room, and we would like to add a table and chairs with some sort of shelving or built-ins to create more of an office/game and play area. Our nursery took over the former office, so adding some storage and a place for a pseudo office is essential!

Looking forward to working on these projects this year and of course beginning our journey into parenthood! We’ve got high hopes for 2019 and I can’t wait to share our progress and life updates with you. As always, thanks for following along!

Xo,

Signed, Katie

  1. Wow, so many wonderful things to look forward to! Babby Dunn is definitely the most joyful one and I can’t wait to meet it. I also can’t wait to see how you’ve styled your nursery, master bedroom and family room. And I’m loving it that there are some gorgeous rugs on your list. Looking forward to following your styling journey this year!
